Ingredients
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Myrtle berries | 600g |
Water | 1L |
Sugar | 600g |
Pure alcohol | 1L |
Instructions
- Begin by placing the fresh myrtle berries in a large, airtight container that is roomy enough to hold both the berries and alcohol.
- Pour the pure alcohol over the myrtle berries, ensuring that they are completely submerged. Seal the container tightly and store it in a dark, cool place. Allow the mixture to infuse for at least 40 days, shaking the container gently every few days to ensure even infusion.
- After the steeping period, carefully strain the alcohol to remove the myrtle berries and any solid residue. Gently squeeze the berries using a cloth or cheesecloth to extract any remaining juices and essences they may have absorbed during the infusion process.
- While the myrtle berries are infusing, prepare the syrup by bringing the water to a boil and dissolving the sugar in it. Once the syrup is ready, set it aside to cool.
- Once the syrup has cooled to room temperature, mix it with the infused alcohol. Strain the entire mixture again to remove any remaining particles, and then bottle the liqueur.
- Store the bottled liqueur in a cool, dark place, and allow it to rest for at least one month, although two months is ideal for a more refined flavor.
This homemade Myrtle Liqueur is perfect for enjoying with friends and family or as a special homemade gift. Its rich, aromatic flavor captures the essence of the myrtle berry, offering a unique, refreshing drink to savor during special occasions.
