Curd Rice Style Overnight Oats Recipe

Curd Oats is a comforting South Indian dish that can be enjoyed as part of your daily meals. It is made in the same way as curd rice and is quick to prepare. You can relish it at any time of the day, making it a perfect option for breakfast or dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 + 1/4 cup Hung Curd
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Instant Oats
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Coriander, finely chopped
  • 6 to 8 Cashews, chopped
  • A pinch of Hing (Asafoetida)
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp White Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp Chana Dal
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 8 Whole Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Grated Ginger
  • 2 tbsp Finely Chopped Onion
  • 8 Curry Leaves
  • 1 Green Chili, sliced
  • 1 Red Chili
  • Oil, as required
  • Salt, to taste

Preparation Time: 0 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, milk, and 3/4 cup of hung curd. Mix well and leave it aside for 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Once the oats mixture has soaked, add the remaining curd, salt, grated ginger, chopped onion, and fresh coriander. Stir well.
  3. In a tempering pan, heat some oil and add mustard seeds. Allow them to splutter.
  4. Once the mustard seeds pop, add hing, cumin seeds, black pepper, urad dal, chana dal, and cashews. Sauté until the dal and cashews are golden brown.
  5. Add curry leaves, green chili, and red chili to the tempering mixture and stir for about 10 seconds.
  6. Pour this tempering mixture into the curd oats mixture and mix thoroughly.
  7. Optionally, you can add pomegranate seeds or grapes for extra flavor.
  8. Serve this delicious curd oats with pickles and papad for a delightful meal.
