Sweet and Spicy Tomato Chutney

Description:
Sweet and Spicy Tomato Chutney is a vibrant, flavorful tomato sauce infused with the zing of ginger and the heat of green chilies. Made from slightly sour tomatoes, this chutney naturally balances sweet and sour elements, enhanced by a blend of aromatic spices. It’s a delightful side dish that pairs well with a variety of meals.

Ingredients:

  • 2-1/2 cups Tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds (Rai/ Kadugu)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • 4 Curry leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
  • 2 Green Chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Oil
  • Salt, to taste

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Let them crackle for a few seconds.
  2. Add the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, grated ginger, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and sugar. Stir well to combine.
  3. Cover the pan and let the mixture simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the tomatoes are tender and have released their juices.
  4. Once cooked, turn off the heat and let the chutney cool to room temperature before serving.

Serving Suggestion:
Serve the Sweet and Spicy Tomato Chutney alongside Moong Dal Chillas for a delicious breakfast treat.
