Cheese Garlic Naan Recipe

Description:
Cheese Garlic Naan is a mouthwatering Indian flatbread stuffed with gooey cheese and flavored with roasted garlic. This crispy, flaky naan is first cooked on a tawa (griddle) and then exposed to direct flame for a delightful texture. The garlic adds a beautiful roasted aroma when it interacts with the flame. Finished with a butter smear, this naan pairs wonderfully with dal or a flavorful sabzi.

Ingredients:

  • For the Dough:

    • 1-1/2 cups All Purpose Flour (Maida)
    • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
    • 1/2 cup Curd (Dahi / Yogurt)
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons Active dry yeast
    • Salt, to taste
    • 1 tablespoon Garlic, minced
    • 1/4 cup Coriander (Dhania) Leaves, finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon Butter (Salted)
    • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • For the Stuffing:

    • 1 cup Cheese, grated
  • For the Topping:

    • 2 tablespoons Garlic, finely chopped
    • Butter (Salted), for smearing

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Make the Dough:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, active dry yeast, salt, garlic, coriander leaves, and butter. Mix well to combine.
    • Gradually add the curd and a little water to knead a soft dough. Add 1 teaspoon of oil and knead until smooth.
    • Shape the dough into a large ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Naan:

    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and knead for another minute. Divide the dough into equal portions.
    • Heat a cast-iron tawa on medium heat.
    • Roll each dough ball into a 4-inch circle. Place the grated cheese in the center and bring the edges together, forming a stuffed ball. Flatten the ball slightly and dust it with flour.
    • Roll it out into an elongated oval shape.
  3. Cook the Naan:

    • Brush water on one side of the naan and place it, water-side down, on the tawa.
    • Sprinkle the chopped garlic on top and gently press it down so that it sticks.
    • After 40 seconds, flip the tawa upside down, allowing the naan to be in direct contact with the flame. The naan will begin to detach from the tawa.
    • Using tongs, carefully remove the naan from the tawa and cook the other side directly on the flame, moving it around for even cooking.
  4. Finish and Serve:

    • Once the naan is cooked, remove it from the flame and smother it with butter.
    • Serve hot with your favorite curry, such as Spinach Mushroom Chickpea Curry, or with Tadkewali Masoor Dal and a refreshing Pudina Pyaz Kachumber Salad.
    • For dessert, enjoy a sweet treat like Mango Sago Kheer.

Enjoy your homemade Cheese Garlic Naan with a delicious spread of flavors!
