- 1-inch Ginger, grated
- 3 cloves Garlic, finely chopped
- 3/4 cup Water (adjust as needed)

- 1/2 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
- 1 teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
- 2 teaspoons Flax Seed Powder (flax meal)
- Oil, for shallow frying
Preparation Time: 7 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Instructions:
-
Soak the Moong Dal: Begin by soaking the moong dal in water for 5-6 hours or preferably overnight.
-
Grind the Dal: After soaking, drain the dal and grind it coarsely using a little water. The consistency should be thick but pourable.
-
Prepare the Batter: Transfer the ground dal to a mixing bowl. Add rice flour, chopped coriander leaves, finely chopped green chilies, grated ginger, chopped garlic, salt, red chili powder, garam masala powder, and flax seed powder. Mix well to combine. The batter should be thick but pourable. Adjust the salt according to your taste.
-
Cook the Cheela: Heat a tawa (griddle) on medium heat and add a few teaspoons of oil. Once the oil is hot, scoop two heapful tablespoons of the moong dal batter onto the tawa. Use the back of a spoon to quickly spread the batter into a thick, even pancake. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until the bottom turns golden brown.
-
Flip and Cook: Flip the cheela and cook the other side until golden brown as well.
-
Drain Excess Oil: Remove the cooked cheela and place it on an absorbent sheet or kitchen towel to absorb excess oil. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
-
Serve: Serve the Green Moong Dal Cheela hot with Tomato Chutney or Capsicum Chutney for a delightful, healthy breakfast. Perfect for a diabetic-friendly meal to start your day!
