Mashed Dal Rice (Tuar Dal and Rice)
Description:
This simple and nutritious mashed dal rice is perfect for babies over 6 months old. Serve this meal for lunch, starting with 3-4 tablespoons. Itβs important not to serve this combination at dinner.

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Tuar Dal (Pigeon Pea Lentils)
- 1/2 cup Rice
- A pinch of Salt (optional)
- A pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
- A pinch of Turmeric Powder
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Instructions:
- Start by washing the tuar dal and rice separately. Soak both in water for 15 minutes.
- Cook the rice in sufficient water until it becomes soft and fully cooked.
- In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dal, water, asafoetida, turmeric, and salt (if using), and cook for about 2-3 whistles or until the dal is soft.
- Once cooked, mix 2 tablespoons of the dal and rice together in a small bowl. For a smoother texture, you can blend the mixture using a blender.
- If needed, add some of the leftover dal water to create a softer consistency.
- This mashed dal rice is ideal for lunch for babies over 6 months old.
