- 6 tablespoons Fresh coconut, grated
- 4 Kashmiri dry red chillies
- 20 grams Tamarind
- 2 Green chillies
- 1/2 inch Ginger
- 2 Kokum (Malabar Tamarind)
- 10 Sichuan peppercorns
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
- Oil, as required
- For marinating:
- 1 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
- Salt, as required
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Instructions:
-
Start by cleaning the mackerel fish. Cut off the heads and slice the body into 2 or 3 pieces. Discard the head and wash the pieces thoroughly after 10 minutes.
-
In a bowl, marinate the mackerel with the red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Set aside in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
-
While the mackerels are marinating, grind the grated coconut, Kashmiri dry red chilies, and tamarind with about 1/2 cup of water to make a smooth, thin gravy.
-
Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok or kadai. Once hot, add the chopped ginger and slit green chilies, and fry them until they become aromatic.
-
Add the prepared ground gravy and marinated mackerel pieces into the kadai. Lightly crush the Sichuan peppercorns and stir them into the curry along with the kokum petals.
-
Cook the curry until the mackerels are tender and the gravy starts to bubble. Once cooked, turn off the heat.
-
Taste and adjust the salt as needed.
