Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Begin by cutting the paneer into square pieces. Set it aside. If you are using fresh peas, steam them lightly and keep them aside as well.

  2. Make the Onion-Ginger-Garlic Paste:
In a blender or mixer grinder, combine the chopped onion, grated ginger, and garlic cloves. Grind them into a smooth paste and set it aside.

  3. Cook the Onion Mixture:
Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the prepared onion paste to the pan and sauté until it turns golden brown and aromatic, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. Add the Tomato Puree and Spices:
Once the onions are golden, add the tomato puree, turmeric powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well and cook this mixture for 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the oil to separate from the masala.

  5. Simmer with Water:
Depending on the consistency you prefer, add a little water to the mixture and bring it to a gentle simmer.

  6. Combine Paneer and Peas:
Now, add the paneer pieces and steamed peas to the pan. Stir gently to coat the paneer and peas with the spiced tomato mixture. Let the dish cook for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

  7. Final Touch:
Once the paneer is heated through and the curry has thickened to your desired consistency, turn off the heat. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

  8. Serving Suggestion:
Matar Paneer is best served hot with tawa parathas or steamed basmati rice. Pair it with dal fry to make a wholesome, comforting meal perfect for lunch or dinner.

Cooking Tips:

  • If you prefer a richer, creamier texture, you can add a few tablespoons of fresh cream or cashew paste towards the end of cooking.
  • Adjust the spice levels to suit your taste. Increase the red chili powder if you like it spicier, or reduce it for a milder flavor.
  • You can also substitute the fresh peas with frozen peas for a quicker preparation, especially when fresh peas are out of season.

Enjoy this hearty and nutritious dish, which not only adds a burst of flavor to your dinner table but also provides a great protein boost. Matar Paneer is sure to become a favorite in your family’s recipe repertoire.
