Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Potatoes (Aloo) 3, boiled and peeled
Corn flour 1 tablespoon
Black pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon
Salt To taste
Mozzarella cheese 1 cup, cut into small cubes
Whole wheat bread crumbs 1/2 cup
All-purpose flour (Maida) 1 tablespoon
Corn flour (for paste) 1 teaspoon
Oil For deep frying or air frying

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

Yield: 12-15 balls (depending on size)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potato Mixture
Begin by mashing the boiled potatoes in a large mixing bowl. Ensure they are smooth and free of lumps. To this, add the black pepper powder, corn flour, and salt. Mix the ingredients well until they are evenly combined, forming a smooth, cohesive dough-like mixture.

  2. Prepare the Cheese
Cut the mozzarella cheese into small cubes, approximately 1/2 inch in size. Set these cubes aside, ready for stuffing into the potato balls.

  3. Make the Flour Paste
In a small bowl, mix the all-purpose flour (maida) and corn flour together. Slowly add a little water, stirring as you go, until the mixture forms a smooth paste. The paste should not be too watery, so ensure it has a thick consistency to coat the potato balls effectively.

  4. Shape the Potato Balls
Take a small portion of the prepared potato mixture and roll it between your hands to form a ball. Gently press the center of the ball to create a small indentation. Place a mozzarella cube into the indentation and carefully seal the ball, making sure the cheese is fully enclosed in the potato mixture. Roll the ball again to smooth out the surface.

  5. Coat the Balls
Dip each prepared ball into the flour paste, ensuring it is evenly coated. Then, roll it in the whole wheat bread crumbs to give it a crispy coating. Repeat this process for all the potato balls.

  6. Refrigerate for Firmness
Place the coated potato balls in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes. This step helps the balls firm up, ensuring they retain their shape during frying.

  7. Fry the Potato Balls
Heat oil in a kadai (deep frying pan) over medium heat for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, carefully slide the potato balls into the oil, a few at a time, ensuring they don’t overcrowd the pan. Fry the balls until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides. Use a slotted spoon to remove the balls and drain the excess oil on a paper towel.

Alternatively, for a healthier version, you can air fry the potato balls. Preheat the air fryer and place the balls inside. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for about 10-12 minutes or until golden and crispy.

  8. Serve
Serve the Mozzarella Stuffed Potato Balls hot and crispy on a serving plate. Pair them with your favorite dip, such as ketchup, ranch, or a tangy green chutney. These potato balls also go wonderfully with a simple tomato sauce.

Tips for the Perfect Mozzarella Stuffed Potato Balls:

  • For Extra Crispiness: Ensure the bread crumbs are evenly distributed and coat the potato balls thoroughly for a crisp, crunchy exterior.
  • For a Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of red chili powder or chopped green chilies to the potato mixture for some extra heat.
  • Air Fryer Tip: If air frying, lightly spray the balls with oil for a golden, crispy texture without deep frying.
  • Storage: These potato balls can be made in advance and refrigerated for a few hours before frying. You can even freeze them for later use!

These Mozzarella Stuffed Potato Balls are bound to be a crowd-pleaser at any gathering, whether as an appetizer, a snack for kids, or a party treat. Their crispy exterior and gooey mozzarella center are sure to melt hearts and fill stomachs with delight. Enjoy!
