Total Time: 40 minutes

Serves: 4

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Stuffing:

    • In a small bowl, mix together the tamarind paste and jaggery until the jaggery dissolves completely.
    • Make a slit in the center of each green chili and carefully remove the seeds. This will create space to stuff the filling.
    • Combine the tamarind-jaggery mixture with celery, fennel powder, roasted gram flour, red chili powder, and salt in a bowl.
    • Stuff this mixture into each slit green chili, making sure the chili is filled completely.
  2. Prepare the Batter:

    • In a separate bowl, mix the gram flour, baking soda, turmeric powder, celery, and a pinch of salt.
    • Gradually add water to form a thick batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the chillies evenly.
  3. Fry the Pakodis:

    • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
    • Dip each stuffed green chili into the batter, ensuring it’s completely coated.
    • Fry the chillies in the hot oil, turning them occasionally until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
    • Remove the fried chillies from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  4. Second Fry (Optional):

    • Once the fried chillies have cooled slightly, cut them into bite-sized pieces.
    • Heat a little oil in a pan and lightly pan-fry the pieces until they are crispy again.
  5. Assemble and Serve:

    • Transfer the Mirchi Pakodi pieces to a serving plate.
    • Sprinkle finely chopped onions, spicy peanuts, fresh coriander leaves, a dash of lemon juice, and chaat masala on top.
    • Serve immediately for a delightful snack!

Serving Suggestions:

  • Mirchi Pakodi pairs perfectly with a hot cup of masala chai, making it an ideal snack for the evening tea time.
  • You can also serve it with a tangy tamarind chutney or mint chutney for extra flavor.
