Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Lentil Mixture

  1. Rinse the white urad dal, yellow moong dal, arhar dal, rice, fenugreek seeds, and cumin seeds thoroughly in water.
  2. Soak all these ingredients together in enough water for at least 8 hours or overnight.

Step 2: Grind the Batter

  1. The next morning, drain the water and transfer the soaked mixture into a mixer grinder.
  2. Add grated coconut, finely chopped onion, green chilies, curry leaves, and coriander leaves.
  3. Gradually add water while grinding to achieve a smooth, pourable batter consistency.
  4. Season the batter with salt and mix well. Allow the batter to rest for 1–2 hours if time permits (optional).

Step 3: Cook the Dosa

  1. Heat a dosa tawa (griddle) over medium heat until hot. Lightly grease it with a few drops of oil or ghee.
  2. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the center of the tawa. Using the back of the ladle, spread the batter in a circular motion to form a thin, even dosa.
  3. Drizzle a few drops of oil or ghee around the edges of the dosa. Let it cook until the bottom turns golden brown and crisp.

Step 4: Flip and Finish

  1. Flip the dosa using a spatula and cook the other side for about 1–2 minutes.
  2. Once both sides are evenly cooked, remove the dosa from the tawa and transfer it to a plate.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Repeat the process with the remaining batter to make more dosas.
  2. Serve the hot, crispy Belle Dosa with coconut chutney and mixed vegetable sambar for a delicious South Indian breakfast or dinner.

Tips for Perfect Belle Dosa

  1. Ensure the dosa batter has a smooth consistency, but avoid making it too runny.
  2. Always heat the tawa properly before pouring the batter to prevent sticking.
  3. You can adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing the quantity of green chilies.
  4. For added flavor, you can ferment the batter for a few hours before making dosas.

Enjoy the goodness of lentils and the authentic flavors of Karnataka with this irresistible Belle Dosa recipe!
