Apple Crumble with Chocolate Sauce

Category: Desserts
Serves: 6

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Cornmeal flour (fine) 200g
All-purpose flour 200g
Almond flour 100g
Sugar 150g
Butter (cold, cubed) 180g
Egg yolk 1
Eggs 1
Fuji apples 470g
Brown sugar 50g
Orange juice 25g
Orange zest ½
Dark chocolate 150g

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the apples: Begin by washing and peeling the Fuji apples. Slice them into wedges, then cut those wedges into smaller pieces for a finer texture. Place the apples in a pan and add the brown sugar and orange zest. Cook the apples on low heat for about 10 minutes. The apples should remain firm and not break apart, so be careful not to overcook them. Once done, transfer the apples to a bowl and let them cool.

  2. Prepare the crumble base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal flour, and almond flour. Mix well. Add the cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients and rub it into the flour using your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the egg yolk and whole egg to the mixture and continue to blend until it forms a dough-like consistency.

  3. Assemble the crumble: Take a baking dish and spread the cooked apple mixture evenly at the bottom. Do not press the apples down; simply layer them out. Now, crumble the dough over the apples, covering the entire surface with the crumbly mixture. Ensure there are no gaps or empty spaces.

  4. Bake the crumble: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) if using a static oven, or 160°C (320°F) for a fan-assisted oven. Bake for 30 minutes in a static oven or about 25 minutes in a fan oven, or until the crumble is golden brown and the apples are tender.

  5. Make the chocolate sauce: While the crumble cools slightly, prepare the chocolate sauce. Chop the dark chocolate roughly and melt it either using a double boiler or by microwaving in 30-second bursts. Once the chocolate has completely melted, transfer a portion of it into a piping bag or squeeze bottle.

  6. Serve: Once the crumble has cooled to a slightly warm temperature, drizzle the melted chocolate over the top in a decorative pattern. Serve the apple crumble with the remaining chocolate sauce on the side for a decadent treat.

Enjoy your Apple Crumble with Chocolate Sauce, a delightful dessert that combines the warmth of baked apples with the richness of dark chocolate! Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special gathering.
