Bloody Puff Pastry Hand: A Sweet and Sinister Treat

Category: Desserts
Servings: 1
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Puff pastry 230g
Raspberry jam 80g
All-purpose flour As needed
Water As needed
Egg yolk 1

Instructions:

  1. Create the Hand Shape Template:
Start by preparing a hand shape template using paper. Simply trace the outline of your hand onto a piece of paper and cut it out using scissors. This will be used to shape the puff pastry into a bloody hand.

  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
Lay out the puff pastry on a clean, flat surface, leaving the baking paper beneath it. Sprinkle a thin layer of all-purpose flour over the pastry to prevent it from sticking.

  3. Shape the First Hand:
Place the paper hand template on top of the puff pastry and use it as a guide to cut out the first hand shape. Remove the excess pastry around the edges.

  4. Make the Second Hand:
Repeat the process to cut out a second hand shape from the puff pastry. Make sure both shapes are of similar size, ensuring they fit together.

  5. Assemble the Pastry:
Brush the edges of one of the hand shapes with a little water to help seal the pastry. Spread raspberry jam generously over the center of this pastry shape, creating a “bloody” effect.

  6. Layer the Second Hand:
Carefully place the second hand-shaped pastry on top of the first, aligning the edges. Gently press the edges together to seal the filling inside.

  7. Decorate the Fingers:
Use a Saint Honoré piping tip to delicately create the appearance of fingernails by pressing it gently into the tips of the fingers. For extra realism, make small horizontal cuts along the fingers to mimic the creases and details of a real hand.

  8. Glaze and Bake:
Brush the top surface of the pastry with the beaten egg yolk for a golden finish. Bake the hand-shaped pastry in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes or until golden and crisp.

  9. Serve:
Once baked, allow the pastry to cool slightly before slicing and serving. This spooky, sweet creation is perfect for a fun and eerie dessert!

Tips:

  • For an extra touch, you can add a little extra raspberry jam along the edges of the hand to make the “blood” even more pronounced.
  • Be sure to avoid overworking the puff pastry to keep it light and flaky.

Enjoy this deliciously eerie dessert that’s perfect for Halloween, themed parties, or just for those who love a bit of sweet drama in their meals!
