Danish Puff Recipe

Description

This Danish Puff recipe is a delightful pastry that boasts a tender, flaky crust topped with a golden almond-flavored glaze. Ideal for breakfast or as a special treat, this pastry is easy to make and is sure to impress your family and friends.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup Bisquick baking mix
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 3/4 cup water

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup Bisquick baking mix
  • 1 tablespoon almond extract
  • 1 1/2 cups eggs (about 3 large eggs)
  • 2 tablespoons icing sugar

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon warm water

Directions

1. Prepare the Pastry Dough:
Begin by cutting 2 tablespoons of butter into 1 cup of Bisquick baking mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of water over the mixture and stir until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Divide the dough into two equal parts and set them aside.

2. Shape the Pastry Strips:
On an ungreased baking sheet, pat each half of the dough into a strip that measures approximately 10 x 3 inches. Ensure the strips are spaced at least four inches apart to allow room for spreading during baking.

3. Prepare the Almond Topping:
In a two-quart saucepan, bring 3/4 cup water and 1/4 cup butter to a rolling boil. Remove from heat and quickly stir in the almond extract and 1 cup of Bisquick baking mix. Stir vigorously over low heat for about 1 1/2 minutes, until a dough ball forms. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.

4. Add Eggs to the Topping:
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, until the dough is smooth and glossy.

5. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

6. Spread the Topping:
Evenly spread half of the almond dough mixture onto each pastry strip.

7. Bake:
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is crisp and golden brown.

8. Cool and Glaze:
Allow the Danish Puff to cool slightly on a wire rack. While cooling, prepare the glaze by mixing 1/2 cup melted butter with 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon warm water until smooth. Spread the glaze evenly over the slightly cooled pastry and sprinkle with sliced almonds, if desired.

9. Serve and Enjoy:
Cut the Danish Puff into 12 equal pieces. Enjoy this delicious pastry warm or at room temperature with a cup of coffee or tea.

This Danish Puff is a delightful addition to any breakfast table or afternoon tea. With its buttery layers and sweet glaze, it’s sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. Happy baking from Love With Recipes! 🍰✨
