Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Tofu 1 piece
Small red onion 1 piece
Garlic cloves 3 cloves
Chili pepper 1 piece
Egg 1 piece
Ground coriander A pinch
Turmeric powder A pinch
Paprika powder 1 teaspoon
Black pepper ½ teaspoon
Salt 2 teaspoons
Green onion 2 stalks
Celery 1 leaf
Lemongrass 1 stalk
Basil (dried) 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Begin by gathering all your ingredients. Blend the chili, small red onion, garlic, and egg until smooth.

  2. Mixing Tofu: In a mixing bowl, crumble the tofu and add the blended mixture. Incorporate the sliced green onions, chopped celery, and smashed lemongrass.

  3. Spicing it Up: Add the paprika, turmeric, ground coriander, salt, black pepper, and dried basil to the tofu mixture. Stir everything until well combined.

  4. Wrapping: Cut aluminum foil into squares (as banana leaves may not be readily available). Place a portion of the tofu mixture in the center of each square and fold the foil to create a packet.

  5. Steaming: Arrange the foil packets in a steamer filled with boiling water. Cover and steam for about 20 minutes.

  6. Serving: Once cooked, carefully unwrap the packets and serve hot. Enjoy the aromatic flavors of Pepes Tahu, which will transport you to the vibrant streets of Indonesia!

This recipe not only showcases the versatility of tofu but also the delightful balance of spices that defines Indonesian cuisine. Enjoy this dish as part of a larger meal or savor it on its own!
