Ingredients:

  • 8 scallions
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon ground pepper
  • Gruyere cheese (quantity not specified)
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
  2. Prepare Walnut Pastry:

    • In a food processor, grind the walnuts until coarsely ground.
    • Add flour and salt to the ground walnuts.
    • Add pieces of butter on top of the dry ingredients in the processor bowl, then pulse briefly until the mixture resembles pea-sized crumbs.
    • Add the egg and process until the mixture just begins to hold together.
    • Remove the dough from the processor and shape it into a flattened disc.
    • Roll out the dough large enough to fit into a 10-inch quiche or tart pan.
    • Place the crust in the pan and chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  3. Pre-bake Pastry:

    • Line the chilled pastry with a large sheet of aluminum foil and fill it with beans or pie weights.
    • Pre-bake the crust in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
    • Remove the crust from the oven and set it aside.
  4. Prepare Filling:

    • In a skillet, sauté the scallions and garlic in butter until softened, which should take about 5 minutes.
    • In a medium bowl, combine the chopped artichoke hearts, sautéed scallion and garlic mixture, half-and-half, eggs, salt, and ground pepper.
  5. Assemble Tart:

    • Sprinkle grated Gruyere cheese over the bottom of the partially baked crust.
    • Pour the prepared filling over the cheese.
  6. Bake Tart:

    • Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake it for about 35 minutes, or until it turns golden and slightly puffy.
  7. Serve:

    • Allow the tart to rest for 10 minutes before cutting it into slices to serve.

Notes:

  • This recipe yields a savory tart with a delightful walnut pastry crust, creamy artichoke filling, and a hint of Gruyere cheese for added flavor.
  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences.
  • Serve this delicious tart as a main dish or as part of a brunch spread, accompanied by a crisp salad or roasted vegetables.
  • Enjoy the unique blend of flavors and textures in this Artichoke Tart in Walnut Pastry!
