Bread Halwa, also known as Double Ka Meetha, is a rich and flavorful Mughlai dessert traditionally made during festive occasions. This delectable dessert was originally crafted during the Mughal era and has since become a beloved sweet treat in Hyderabad, often prepared during festivals. Ingredients:

Sugar 1 cup
Milk 1 ½ cups
Cream 4 tablespoons
Ghee 1 ½ tablespoons
Cardamom Powder ½ teaspoon
Dry Fruits (Cashews, Raisins) As needed
Edible Silver Foil For garnishing

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    Start by soaking the bread slices in milk and set them aside for a few minutes to soften. The bread will absorb the milk, making it soft and perfect for the halwa.

  2. Cook the Bread:
    In a frying pan or kadai, heat ghee over medium flame. Once the ghee is hot, add the cardamom powder and the soaked bread slices. Stir continuously to fry the bread until it turns a light brown and becomes slightly crisp.

  3. Add Sugar and Cream:
    Now, add 1 cup of sugar to the bread mixture. Stir well and cook for another 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves completely. Add the cream to the pan and mix everything thoroughly. Let it simmer for around 10 minutes, allowing the mixture to thicken and absorb all the flavors.

  4. Prepare the Dry Fruits:
    In a small pan, heat a little ghee and fry the cashews and raisins until they turn golden. Remove them from the pan and set aside.

  5. Combine and Garnish:
    Add the fried dry fruits to the bread halwa and stir well. For added flavor, sprinkle a bit of cardamom powder. Once the halwa is cooked and well combined, let it cool slightly.

  6. Garnish and Serve:
    Garnish your Bread Halwa with edible silver foil (Chandi ka Wark) for an elegant touch. This beautiful dessert is now ready to be served as a delicious sweet after your meal.
