Perfect for a special family meal or to impress guests with your culinary prowess.
Ingredients
- 250 grams beef (thinly sliced)
- 1 packet instant coconut milk (I use Rosebrand)
- 1 stalk lemongrass
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 kaffir lime leaves
Spice Paste:
- 10 red bird’s eye chilies (for vibrant color)
- Additional bird’s eye chilies (if you prefer extra spiciness)
- 6 shallots
- 3 garlic cloves
- 2 cm turmeric
- 2 cm ginger
- 2 cm galangal
- 2 nutmegs
- A pinch of cinnamon
- A pinch of cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander
- 2 roasted candlenuts
- Salt, sugar, and flavor enhancer to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Spice Paste: Blend the red bird’s eye chilies, shallots, garlic, turmeric, ginger, galangal, nutmegs, cinnamon, cumin, ground pepper, coriander, and roasted candlenuts into a smooth paste.
- Sauté the Spice Paste: Heat a little oil in a pan and sauté the spice paste along with the lemongrass, bay leaves, and kaffir lime leaves. Cook until fragrant.
- Cook the Beef: Add enough water to the pan to cover the beef. Add the thinly sliced beef and bring to a boil.
- Add the Coconut Milk: Once boiling, add the instant coconut milk. Stir continuously to prevent the coconut milk from separating and to allow the oils to release.
- Season and Simmer: Add sugar, salt, and a flavor enhancer. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Slow Cook: Simmer the beef on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully.
- Serve: Once the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, your Rendang Daging Sapi is ready to be served. Enjoy it with steamed rice for a complete meal.
Indulge in the savory and aromatic experience of Rendang Daging Sapi. Perfect for special occasions or a hearty family meal, this dish will transport your taste buds to the heart of Indonesian cuisine.
