Indonesian-Style Tahu Campur

Ingredients:

  • 10 pieces of tofu
  • 1/2 cup peanuts
  • 5 small red chilies
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Cabbage, finely shredded
  • Celery leaves, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Palm sugar, to taste
  • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), to taste
  • Warm water
  • Fried shallots, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu pieces until golden brown. Be sure not to over-fry them; they should remain soft inside. Once done, drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  2. Prepare the Peanut Sauce:

    • In a separate pan, fry the peanuts and garlic until they become aromatic and golden brown.
    • Let the peanuts cool slightly, then blend or grind them together with the red chilies, garlic, salt, and palm sugar until smooth.
    • Gradually add warm water and sweet soy sauce to the blended mixture, adjusting the consistency and flavor to your taste.
  3. Assemble the Dish:

    • Cut the fried tofu into small cubes.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the tofu cubes with finely shredded cabbage and chopped celery leaves.
    • Pour the peanut sauce over the tofu and vegetables, and toss gently to ensure everything is well-coated with the sauce.
  4. Garnish and Serve:

    • Sprinkle fried shallots on top for added crunch and flavor.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy this delicious, hearty Indonesian dish!
