Beef Yakiniku Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 100 grams thinly sliced beef
  • ¼ onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1 small piece of ginger, smashed
  • ¼ red bell pepper (or green bell pepper, if preferred), thinly sliced
  • 150 ml dashi stock
  • 3 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • A pinch of ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced beef, onion, garlic, and smashed ginger.
    • Add the soy sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly using your hands to ensure the ingredients are well-coated and the flavors are absorbed. Cover the bowl with cling wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Prepare the Dashi Stock:

    • If using bonito flakes, bring 150 ml of water to a boil. Add the bonito flakes and let it steep for a few minutes. Strain the mixture to obtain a clear dashi stock. Alternatively, you can use store-bought dashi powder dissolved in hot water, following the package instructions. This step is essential for achieving an authentic Japanese flavor.
  3. Cook the Beef:

    • Heat the olive oil in a pan or skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until it changes color, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add the Dashi Stock:

    • Pour in the prepared dashi stock. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat. Simmer until the beef is tender and the liquid has reduced slightly.
  5. Incorporate the Bell Pepper:

    • Add the sliced bell pepper to the pan and continue cooking until the pepper is tender and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
  6. Serve:

    • Serve the beef yakiniku hot with freshly steamed rice. This dish is a favorite among both children and adults, making it a delightful addition to any meal.

Enjoy this quick and flavorful Beef Yakiniku that captures the essence of Japanese cuisine right in your kitchen!
