4 | Thyme |
1/4 | Bay leaf |
1/2 | Celery |
1 | Onion |
1/2 | Garlic powder |
1/2 | Cinnamon |
1/4 | Ketchup |
1/4 | Brown sugar |
1/4 | Applesauce |
1/4 | Fresh lemon juice |
1 | Pork ribs |
1/2 | Salt |

Instructions:
-
In a large saucepan or stock pot, cover the pork ribs with cold water. Add thyme, salt, pepper, bay leaf, celery, and onion.
-
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Cover the pot, reduce the heat, and let it simmer for about 45 minutes or until the ribs are tender.
-
Remove the ribs from the pot and place them in a shallow glass dish. Set aside.
-
(Optional: Strain the cooking liquid and refrigerate or freeze it to use as soup stock).
-
For the sauce, in a small saucepan, combine all the sauce ingredients. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes to blend the flavors. Let it cool.
-
Cut the strips of ribs into serving portions of 3 to 4 ribs.
-
Pour the sauce all over the ribs in the dish and marinate for 3 to 4 hours in the refrigerator, or for 30 minutes at room temperature.
-
Remove the ribs from the sauce, reserving any remaining sauce.
-
Cook the ribs on a greased grill over medium-hot coals or a medium setting. Turn and brush occasionally with the reserved sauce for about 20 minutes or until the meat is nicely browned.
-
Note: You can double the sauce recipe if you desire lots of basting sauce during grilling.
This recipe yields deliciously tender ribs with a flavorful sauce, perfect for any occasion, and sure to satisfy your craving for a taste of the famous Bar “b” Barn experience! 🍽️ Enjoy!
