Choto Aloor Dum Recipe (Bengali Style)

Choto Aloor Dum is a delicious Bengali dish made by cooking small potatoes with a variety of aromatic spices. This easy-to-make recipe is perfect for daily meals and can be served either as a vegetable side dish or as a starter.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg small potatoes, boiled and peeled
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 55 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Heat the Oil: Begin by heating mustard oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter for about 10 seconds.
  2. Prepare the Paste: In a blender, combine chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, and ginger. Blend into a smooth paste.
  3. Cook the Paste: Add the prepared paste into the pan along with salt and sugar. Stir well and cook for about 1 minute.
  4. Add Spices: Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Stir and let the mixture cook for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add Potatoes: Add the boiled and peeled small potatoes to the pan. Mix well and add garam masala powder.
  6. Cook the Dish: Let the potatoes cook in the spice mixture for about 7-10 minutes.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Turn off the heat and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
