Description:

These delightful Greek Wedding Cookies, also known as Kourabiedes, are a traditional treat often served at weddings and other festive occasions in Greek culture. With a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture and a hint of citrus flavor, these cookies are sure to impress your guests and become a favorite in your baking repertoire.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sweet butter, softened
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 3 3/4 cups confectioners’ sugar (for coating)
  • 1/2 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 whole clove (for decoration)

Instructions:

Step Description
1 Soften the butter to room temperature, then beat it with an electric mixer for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes white and creamy.
2 Continuing to beat constantly, gradually add 1/4 cup of confectioners’ sugar, the egg yolk, and orange juice to the butter, beating until the mixture reaches a thick, mayonnaise-like consistency.
3 Sift the flour and cornstarch into a bowl, then gradually add it to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
4 Shape the dough into a round log and cut it diagonally into 1/2 inch slices. Shape each slice into crescent shapes with your fingers.
5 Place the shaped cookies 1/2 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Insert a whole clove into the center of each cookie for decoration.
6 Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cookies for 25 minutes, or until they are lightly golden brown.
7 While the cookies are baking, prepare a large sheet of waxed paper and sprinkle 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar evenly over it.
8 As soon as the cookies are done baking, use a spatula to gently transfer them onto the prepared waxed paper, arranging them side by side.
9 Once all the cookies are on the waxed paper, sift the remaining confectioners’ sugar over them, ensuring they are evenly coated.
10 Allow the cookies to cool for at least 4 hours before serving, or for even better flavor, wait until the next day. These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
