Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough: Begin by placing softened butter, cut into small pieces, and sugar into a large mixing bowl. Add a pinch of fine salt. Stir the mixture lightly; do not overwork the butter to avoid it getting too warm.

  2. Incorporate the egg: Add the egg to the bowl and continue mixing until well combined.

  3. Infuse the flavor: Slice the vanilla pod in half and scrape out the seeds. Add these seeds to the bowl for that aromatic vanilla flavor.

  4. Add the liquids: Slowly pour in the milk, stirring as you go with electric whisks. Ensure the milk is incorporated smoothly into the butter-sugar mixture.

  5. Add the dry ingredients: Sift the flour and baking powder directly into the bowl. Continue mixing with the electric whisks until the flour is mostly absorbed.

  6. Final mixing: At this point, switch to a spatula (or a marisa) to fully incorporate the flour into the mixture. You should end up with a smooth dough.

  7. Form the dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly by hand to form a smooth, homogenous dough. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place it between two sheets of parchment paper.

  8. Roll out the dough: Using a rolling pin, flatten the dough to an even thickness. Cut the dough into 2 cm wide strips, then slice each strip into 7 cm long rectangles. This will give you approximately 40 biscuits.

  9. Decorate: Use a wooden skewer to gently poke the tops of the biscuits, creating a decorative pattern.

  10. Prepare for baking: Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced apart. Brush the tops with a little extra milk for a glossy finish.

  11. Bake: Preheat your oven to 180°C (static mode). Bake the biscuits for 15-18 minutes, or until golden and firm to the touch.
