Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Mixture
In a bowl, combine the flour, lemon pepper seasoning, butter, and heavy cream. Stir until the mixture is smooth. Add the shredded Swiss cheese and mix until fully incorporated. Set aside.

  2. Prepare the Pork Roast
Using a sharp knife, cut a lengthwise slit down the center of the pork roast, being careful to leave about 1/2 inch at the bottom. Gently open the roast so it lies flat. Cover with plastic wrap and use a meat mallet to flatten the roast to about 3/4 inch thickness.

  3. Fill the Roast
Remove the plastic wrap and lay the deli ham slices over the surface of the roast. Spread the cheese mixture lengthwise down one side of the roast, ensuring the filling is within 1 1/2 inches of each end.

  4. Roll the Roast
Carefully roll up the roast, jelly-roll style, starting with the long side where the cheese filling is spread. Tie the roast several times with kitchen string to secure it. Use toothpicks to secure the ends, ensuring the filling stays inside during roasting.

  5. Season the Roast
In a small bowl, combine the dried marjoram, oregano, and basil. Rub this mixture evenly over the entire surface of the roast, ensuring the seasoning sticks to the meat.

  6. Roast the Pork
Place the prepared roast on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. Roast, uncovered, in a preheated oven at 325°F for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours, or until the internal temperature of the roast reaches 160°F on a meat thermometer. Once done, remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes.

  7. Prepare the Cream Sauce
While the roast is resting, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes tender and translucent. Stir in the cornstarch and cook for another minute, allowing the mixture to blend.

  8. Make the Sauce
Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and chicken broth. Bring the sauce to a boil, stirring constantly. Once it starts to thicken (about 2 minutes), remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the sour cream. Season with salt to taste.

  9. Serve
Slice the pork roast into thick, even slices and arrange on a serving platter. Spoon the creamy sauce over the slices and serve immediately. Enjoy the delicious combination of tender, juicy pork with rich and flavorful cream sauce!

Tips for Success

  • Pork Roast Selection: A boneless pork loin roast is ideal for this recipe, as it is tender and cooks evenly. If you prefer, you can also use a bone-in pork roast, but it may require additional cooking time.

  • Cheese Choices: While Swiss cheese gives a mild and nutty flavor, you can experiment with other cheeses like Gruyère or mozzarella for a different taste profile.

  • Resting Time: Let the roast rest after removing it from the oven to allow the juices to redistribute, ensuring a moist and tender result.
