Cheesy Hamburger Soup 🍲

Description: So good! It’s a long-time favorite. A must when the weather turns cold. We serve this with a big slice of pumpernickel bread.

Ingredients:

Ground beef 1 1/2 lbs
Onions 2
Celery 1 stalk
Carrot 1
Garlic 1 clove
Beef broth 3 cups
Beef bouillon cubes 2
Diced tomatoes 1 can (14.5 oz)
Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp
Margarine 2 tbsp
Flour 1/2 cup
Italian seasoning to taste
Hot pepper sauce to taste

Directions:

  1. Brown the Beef: In a large soup pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat.

  2. Add Vegetables: Once the beef is browned, add in the chopped onions, celery, carrot, and minced garlic. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.

  3. Incorporate Broth: Pour in the beef broth along with the beef bouillon cubes and the diced tomatoes. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  4. Seasoning: Add the Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and hot pepper sauce according to your taste preferences. Stir to incorporate all the flavors.

  5. Simmer: Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Allow the soup to simmer gently for about 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  6. Prepare Roux: In a small saucepan, melt the margarine over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and cook, stirring constantly until the mixture is beginning to brown, creating a roux.

  7. Incorporate Roux: Carefully mix the roux into the soup, stirring until it is well incorporated and the soup begins to thicken.

  8. Final Simmer: Cover the pot and let the soup simmer for another 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
