Ingredients:

  • For the Lentils:

    • 1 cup Masoor Dal (Whole), soaked for 2 hours
    • 1 Onion, finely chopped
    • 4 cloves Garlic, chopped
    • 1/2 cup Homemade Tomato Puree
    • 2 tbsp Sweet and Spicy Red Chilli Sauce (Tomato Chilli Sauce)
    • 1 tsp Sugar
    • 1 tsp Cumin Powder (Jeera)
    • Salt, to taste
    • 1 tbsp Oil (for sautéing)
  • For the Burger:

    • 2 Burger Buns
    • 1 Cucumber, sliced
    • 4 tbsp Del Monte Cheesy Garlic Mayo

Preparation Time: 150 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 180 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Soak Lentils:
Soak the masoor dal (lentils) for at least 2 hours. After soaking, pressure cook the lentils with 1 cup of water and salt for about 3 whistles. Allow the pressure to release naturally. Drain the water and set the lentils aside.

  2. Prepare Lentil Filling:
In a saucepan, heat oil and sauté the chopped onions and garlic until the onions become translucent. Add the homemade tomato puree, sweet and spicy red chili sauce, sugar, and cumin powder. Let it cook for about 2 minutes. Stir in the cooked lentils and salt, and simmer until the gravy thickens. Turn off the heat once the filling is well combined.

  3. Toast the Buns:
Slice the burger buns in half and toast them with butter until golden brown and crispy on both sides.

  4. Assemble the Burger:
Spread a generous portion of the lentil filling on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add slices of cucumber on top and finish with a heap of Del Monte Cheesy Garlic Mayo. Cover with the top half of the bun.

  5. Serve:
Serve the Vegetarian Sloppy Joe alongside a refreshing glass of Homemade Fresh Orange Juice for a wholesome meal your family will adore!

Enjoy this hearty and flavorful vegetarian twist on the classic Sloppy Joe—perfect for a quick dinner that’s both satisfying and healthy!
