Mini Penne Bake with Ham and Mozzarella

Cooked Ham (Prosciutto Cotto) 300g
Mozzarella 300g
Marjoram (finely chopped) To taste
Grana Padano DOP (Grated) 40g
Whole Milk 500g
Parmigiano Reggiano DOP (Grated) 200g
All-Purpose Flour (00) 50g
Butter 50g

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bechamel Sauce
    Start by heating the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat, just until it begins to simmer (not boiling). In a separate pan, melt the butter over low heat. Gradually add the flour to the butter, stirring constantly with a whisk to create a roux. Continue to whisk for a few minutes until the roux reaches a light golden color. Slowly add the warm milk to the roux, stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Let the sauce thicken to a creamy consistency, then remove from heat.

  2. Prepare the Ham and Mozzarella
    Slice the cooked ham into 1 cm thick strips, then cut the strips into small cubes. Repeat this process with the mozzarella cheese, cutting it into small cubes as well. Set both aside.

  3. Cook the Pasta
    Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Once itโ€™s boiling, salt the water and add the mini penne. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions, ensuring itโ€™s al dente. Once done, drain the pasta and transfer it to a large mixing bowl.

  4. Combine the Ingredients
    While the pasta is still hot, pour the prepared creamy parmesan sauce over it, ensuring the pasta is well-coated. Add the diced cooked ham and mozzarella cubes, then sprinkle the finely chopped marjoram over the mixture for a fragrant touch.

  5. Assemble the Bake
    Preheat your oven to 180ยฐC (350ยฐF). Grease a 28 cm (11-inch) baking dish and transfer the pasta mixture into it. Spread it out evenly. Sprinkle the grated Parmigiano Reggiano DOP and Grana Padano DOP over the top, creating a golden crust when baked.

  6. Bake and Serve
    Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Serve your delicious mini penne bake with ham and mozzarella while warm.
