Description:
I got this recipe from my sister, who is an amazing cook! We have it often at Christmas for breakfast. The great part is that you make it the night before, and have minimal work in the morning. It’s fantastic! 😋
Ingredients:
- 12-16 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 loaf bread
- 6-8 slices back bacon
- 8-10 slices ham
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1/2 onion, minced
- 1/2 green pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Crushed corn flakes (amount not specified)
Instructions:
-
Grease the bottom of an 11×13-inch baking pan.
-
Remove crusts from the bread and layer them in the bottom of the pan.
-
Add a layer of sliced cheese, followed by a layer of back bacon or ham, and then another layer of bread with the crusts removed.
-
Set aside.
-
In a medium bowl, beat the eggs. Then, add dry mustard, minced onion, chopped green pepper, and salt & pepper to taste.
-
Pour the egg mixture over the layers of bread, cheese, and ham in the pan.
-
Cover the pan and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to meld together.
-
The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Mix the melted butter with crushed corn flakes and sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the casserole.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
-
Once baked, remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.
-
