Ingredients:
- 2 tubes of crescent rolls
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions:
Step | Description |
---|---|
1 | Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. |
2 | Lightly butter a 15 1/2″ by 10 1/2″ jelly-roll pan (a cookie sheet with sides). |
3 | In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract with a mixer until smooth. |
4 | Remove the dough from one tube of crescent rolls and unroll it. Place it in the middle of the prepared pan. Pat it out with your fingers, pressing the perforations together, until the dough completely covers the bottom of the pan. |
5 | Place the pan in the oven and bake for 4 minutes, or until the dough is slightly dry. |
6 | Remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. |
7 | Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the baked dough. |
8 | Spoon the cherry pie filling over the cream cheese layer. |
9 | Unroll the remaining sheet of crescent rolls and separate it into 8 triangles along the perforations. |
10 | Arrange the triangles on top of the cherry filling, spaced evenly. They will not cover the surface completely. |
11 | Prepare an egg glaze by beating an egg in a small bowl. Brush the egg glaze over the crescent roll triangles. |
12 | Bake for 30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the cheese mixture is set. |
13 | Let the Danish cool, then dust with powdered sugar if desired. |
14 | Cut into squares and refrigerate until ready to serve. |
Tips:
- Experiment with different pie fillings such as blueberry or apple for variation.
- For a decorative touch, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.
- Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
