Instructions

  1. Cook the Noodles: Start by boiling water in a large pot. Once boiling, add the egg noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Steak: While the noodles are cooking, take the lean round steak and lightly dust both sides with flour. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a splash of cooking oil. Once hot, brown the steak on both sides, ensuring it’s cooked thoroughly.

  3. Slice the Steak: Once browned, remove the steak from the skillet and place it on a cutting board. Cut the steak into strips, approximately ½ to ¾ inch wide. Return the sliced steak to the skillet and brown the remaining edges.

  4. Add Bouillon and Sauce: Dissolve the beef bouillon cubes in boiling water, then pour this mixture over the steak in the skillet. In a separate bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup and lemon juice, then stir this mixture into the skillet.

  5. Heat the Mixture: Allow the combined ingredients to heat up, bringing them to a boil, but avoid letting the mixture simmer to maintain its creamy texture.

  6. Serve: Once heated through, serve the beef mixture generously over the cooked noodles. This dish pairs wonderfully with a refreshing Waldorf Salad.

Tips

For a day-ahead preparation, you can store the meat in the skillet covered in the refrigerator after adding the bouillon. Just remember to wait to cook the noodles until you’re ready to complete the dish the next day.

Enjoy this quick, hearty meal that captures the essence of home cooking and the warm memories of family gatherings!
