Beef Spaghetti Bolognese

Ingredients:

  • 225 grams spaghetti
  • 300 grams ground beef, washed and drained
  • 1 carrot, julienned (optional)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 3 red bird’s eye chilies (optional), sliced
  • 1/2 stalk green onion, sliced
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 200 grams bottled tomato sauce
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons bottled chili sauce (optional)
  • 50 ml water
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch slurry (optional, to thicken)
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Salt, to taste (be cautious, as the sauce can be quite salty)
  • 2 tablespoons oil, margarine, or butter for sautéing
  • Grated cheese, for topping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Spaghetti: Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions in boiling salted water with a splash of oil until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Ingredients: While the spaghetti cooks, gather and prepare all the ingredients.

  3. Sauté Aromatics: Heat the oil, margarine, or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until fragrant. If using, add the sliced bird’s eye chilies and green onion, stirring until well mixed.

  4. Cook the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through.

  5. Add Vegetables: Incorporate the chopped tomato and carrot into the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook for a few minutes.

  6. Combine Sauces and Seasonings: Pour in the tomato sauce and chili sauce (if using). Stir in the dried oregano and water. Mix everything thoroughly. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

  7. Simmer and Thicken: Allow the sauce to simmer until the carrot is tender and the flavors are well combined. If the sauce is too thin, gradually add the cornstarch slurry while stirring continuously until the desired thickness is reached.

  8. Season to Taste: Adjust the seasoning with salt and sugar to taste. Be cautious with the salt, as the tomato sauce may already add enough saltiness.

  9. Serve: Combine the cooked spaghetti with the sauce or serve the sauce over the spaghetti. Garnish with grated cheese as desired.

  10. Enjoy: Serve your delicious Beef Spaghetti Bolognese hot, garnished with cheese, and enjoy a hearty meal!

This recipe for Beef Spaghetti Bolognese combines the savory flavors of ground beef with a rich tomato sauce, enhanced by a touch of oregano and optional chili heat. Perfect for a comforting dinner that brings together classic Italian flavors with a personal touch.
