Simple Indonesian Chicken Opor Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 packets of instant opor seasoning (Indofood brand)
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder (Desaku brand recommended)
  • 1 small packet of coconut cream
  • Water, granulated sugar, cooking oil, chicken broth powder (Masako brand)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by washing the chicken thoroughly and sprinkle with salt. Let it sit for 30 minutes, then rinse well.

  2. Heat some cooking oil in a pot over medium heat. Sauté the instant opor seasoning until fragrant.

  3. Pour in enough water to cover the chicken. Add the chicken pieces into the pot.

  4. Stir in the turmeric powder, chicken broth powder, and granulated sugar. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.

  5. Add the small packet of coconut cream (santan) and stir gently to incorporate. Be careful not to let the coconut cream clump.

  6. Taste and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. Allow the mixture to come to a boil.

  7. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer gently until the chicken is cooked through and tender, and the sauce has thickened slightly.
