Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Cream the butter in a mixing bowl.
- Gradually add sugar, one spoonful at a time, alternating with a spoonful of beaten eggs.
- Beat the mixture until it becomes light and creamy.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Divide the mixture into 3 parts.
- In another bowl, mix the milk and vanilla extract together.
- Add the milk mixture to the creamed ingredients, then gradually incorporate the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Add flour as needed to create a soft dough.
- Cover the dough and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight (up to 12 hours).
- The next day, remove 1/3 of the dough from the refrigerator and keep the rest chilled.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/3 inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into desired shapes and let them stand for 15 minutes before cooking.
- Heat cooking oil in a frying pan to 375°F (190°C) over medium-high heat.
- Carefully place 3 doughnuts at a time in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan to maintain the oil temperature.
- Fry the doughnuts for about 4 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown.
- Once cooked, remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain them on brown paper to remove excess oil.
- While still warm, sprinkle a mixture of sugar and cinnamon over the doughnuts.
- Serve and enjoy these delicious homemade doughnuts with a cup of tea or coffee.
Tips:
- These doughnuts freeze exceptionally well. Store them in an airtight container in the freezer for future enjoyment.
- To reheat frozen doughnuts, simply thaw them at room temperature or warm them in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
- Experiment with different toppings or glazes to customize these doughnuts to your liking.
- Make sure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying to ensure even cooking and a crispy exterior.
- Don’t skip the chilling step, as it helps the dough develop flavor and makes it easier to handle when rolling and cutting.
