Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 large russet potatoes
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
Instructions:

Prep: 20 mins | 1. Preheat the oven to 425Β°F (220Β°C). |
2. Peel the potatoes and thinly slice them using a mandoline. | |
3. Lightly oil a 9×13 baking dish. | |
4. Begin layering the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. | |
5. Season each layer with salt, pepper, shredded cheese, and sliced onion. Repeat for 3-4 layers, ending with cheese on top. | |
Total: 1h5m | 6. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the potato layers. |
7. Bake, uncovered, in the upper third of the oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden and tender. | |
8. Allow the dish to rest for about 30 minutes before serving, loosely covered. | |
9. If needed to hold longer, stop cooking just before the liquid is fully absorbed. Reheat gently before serving. |
