Simple Tahu Santan Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of Malang tofu, cut into cubes
  • 1 sachet of Kara coconut milk
  • 4 shallots, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 5 bird’s eye chilies, sliced
  • A small piece of turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 200 ml water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Aromatics: Heat a bit of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the finely chopped shallots and garlic, sautéing until they become fragrant and translucent.

  2. Add Turmeric: Grate or finely chop the turmeric and add it to the pan. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the turmeric releases its aroma.

  3. Combine Liquids: Pour in the water and bring it to a gentle boil. Add the coconut milk, salt, and sugar, stirring well to combine all the ingredients.

  4. Incorporate the Tofu: Gently add the tofu cubes to the pan. Stir to ensure the tofu is evenly coated with the sauce.

  5. Simmer and Season: Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors of the sauce. Adjust seasoning as needed to taste.

  6. Final Touches: Add the sliced bird’s eye chilies to the pan, giving it a final stir. Cook for an additional minute to let the heat of the chilies infuse into the dish.

  7. Serve and Enjoy: Once the tofu has absorbed the flavors and the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from heat. Serve hot and enjoy your simple Tahu Santan!

Note: For added flavor, you can garnish with fresh herbs or serve with steamed rice.
