Instructions:

  1. Preparation:

    • Firstly, clean, wash, and soak all the dals in sufficient water for a minimum of 6 hours.
    • Peel and finely chop onion and garlic.
    • Wash, remove stems, and finely chop green chilies.
    • Next, wash and finely chop the tomatoes.
    • Similarly, chop the coriander leaves.
  2. Cooking the Lentils:

    • Drain the soaked dals, then add 6 cups of water and pressure-cook for 30 minutes or until the dals are completely cooked.
    • Mix them well using a round ladle.
  3. Preparing the Tempering:

    • Meanwhile, heat oil in a pan.
    • Add garlic and stir-fry briefly until golden brown.
    • Then, add onion and green chilies, and sautรฉ for 4-5 minutes or until the onion is golden-brown in color.
    • Add red chili and cumin powders and stir-fry briefly.
    • Now, add the chopped tomatoes and cook on high flame for 3-4 minutes, stirring continuously.
  4. Combining Ingredients:

    • Stir in the cooked dals and butter, mixing well.
    • Add salt, chopped coriander leaves, and cook the dal for 10 minutes on low flame, stirring continuously.
    • Finally, add yogurt and mix well.
  5. Finishing Touches:

    • Crush kasuri methi between the palms and sprinkle it on the dal.
    • Serve hot with White Basmati rice!
