Ingredients

  • 5 cups water
  • 1 cup grits
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

Step Description Time
1 Place grits in a small bowl. 10 minutes
2 Cover with water and stir well to allow chaff to float to the surface.
3 Slowly pour off water to drain off chaff.
4 Repeat the process of draining well.
5 Place the cleaned grits in a 2-quart casserole dish with 5 cups of water and 1/2 tsp salt; mix well.
6 DO NOT COVER THE DISH!
7 Place the dish in the microwave set on high. 15 minutes
8 Cook for 15 minutes.
9 Remove from the microwave and stir well.
10 Repeat the previous step.
11 Repeat the previous step again.
12 Remove from the microwave.
13 Stir in the butter until melted, ensuring the grits are smooth and creamy.
