Ingredients:

  • 2 cups white button mushrooms
  • 1 block cream cheese
  • 1/4 lb sausage
  • Butter

Instructions:

Step Description
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Clean the mushrooms, separating the caps and stems. If using water, drain them well.
3. Cook the sausage in a frying pan over medium to medium-high heat.
4. While the sausage cooks, allow the cream cheese to soften in a mixing bowl and mince the mushroom stem pieces.
5. Season the sausage to taste, considering adding garlic for extra flavor.
6. Once the sausage is nearly cooked, add the minced mushroom stems and continue cooking until done.
7. Drain excess grease from the sausage mixture, then add it to the softened cream cheese. Mix thoroughly.
8. Carefully fill the mushroom caps with the cream cheese and sausage mixture.
9. Optionally, melt butter to lightly coat the bottom of each mushroom cap or brush it over the tops. Any extra butter can be placed in the bottom of the baking pan.
10. Arrange the stuffed mushroom caps in a 13×9-inch (or larger) baking dish with sides.
11. Add a small amount of water to the bottom of the baking dish, enough to cover the bottom.
12. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes until the mushroom caps are golden and the filling is heated through.
13. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the stuffed mushrooms to a serving plate.
14. Serve warm and enjoy! These stuffed mushrooms can also be reheated, making them a convenient make-ahead option.

Variations:

  1. Add Bread Crumbs: Mix dried bread crumbs into the cream cheese and sausage mixture to create a larger batch without increasing the amount of cream cheese or sausage. Onions are also a tasty addition.

  2. Adjust Ratio: Use one 8oz. box of cream cheese with two 8oz. packages of sausage for a larger batch that’s slightly less rich but equally delicious.

Fun Tips:

  • The cream cheese mixture is versatile and can be enjoyed on bread or crackers. This is handy if you’re catering to someone who isn’t fond of mushrooms – reserve some of the mixture for them to dip with.

Indulge in the savory delight of these Stuffed Mushrooms with Cream Cheese & Sausage, perfect for any occasion and sure to become a favorite among family and friends. Once you try them, you’ll understand why they’re so highly requested! 🍴
