Indian Spiced Fish in Creamy Yogurt Sauce πŸŸπŸ›

Preparation Time: 25 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes
Servings: 4

Description:

Depending on how many chilies you use, this is a mildly spiced and lovely aromatic dish. I use small plaice fillets, rolled up and secured with a wooden skewer (remove them before serving) for this fish dish, but it is just as nice with other white fish. Serve with plain white rice, green peas, and a cucumber salad.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3-4 onions
  • 4 green chilies
  • 2-3 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 cup fresh coriander, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients:

    • Peel and finely chop the onions.
    • Deseed and finely chop the green chilies.
    • Peel and grate the ginger.
  2. Saute Aromatics:

    • Heat the butter in a large frying pan over medium heat.
    • Add the chopped onions and sautΓ© until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add Flavor:

    • Stir in the chopped green chilies and grated ginger. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Prepare the Yogurt Mixture:

    • In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, turmeric powder, fenugreek seeds, and ground cardamom until well combined.
  5. Simmer the Sauce:

    • Pour the yogurt mixture into the frying pan with the onions, chilies, and ginger.
    • Reduce the heat to low and simmer the sauce gently for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly and the flavors meld together beautifully.
  6. Add the Fish:

    • Carefully place the fish fillets into the simmering sauce, ensuring they are coated evenly.
    • Simmer the fish in the sauce for another 10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  7. Garnish and Serve:

    • Once the fish is cooked, transfer it gently to a serving dish.
    • Sprinkle the chopped fresh coriander over the top for a burst of color and flavor.
  8. Enjoy Your Meal!

    • Serve your Indian Spiced Fish in Creamy Yogurt Sauce hot, accompanied by plain white rice, green peas, and a refreshing cucumber salad.
