Ayam Geprek: A Flavorful Indonesian Delight

Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces chicken breast (diced)
  • 1 cup of seasoned flour (Sajiku brand preferred)
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1 large red chili (adjust for heat preference)
  • Salt, sugar, and seasoning powder (optional, to taste)
  • Fresh basil (optional, for garnish)
  • Fried tempeh (optional, for garnish)
  • Sliced cucumber (optional, for garnish)
  • Cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Begin by thoroughly washing the chicken pieces. Prepare a wet batter using the seasoned flour and coat the chicken pieces with it. Next, dredge the coated chicken in dry seasoned flour and set aside.

  2. Fry the Chicken: Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the chicken pieces until they are golden brown and fully cooked. Remove the chicken from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  3. Prepare the Sambal: In the same oil, briefly fry the garlic and red chili until fragrant. Remove from the pan and let cool slightly. Blend the garlic and chili together, adding salt, sugar, and seasoning powder to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.

  4. Combine Chicken and Sambal: Place the fried chicken back into the pan with the sambal. Gently press the chicken pieces with the back of a spoon to ensure the sambal fully coats and infuses with the chicken. Allow them to cook together for a few minutes to blend the flavors.

  5. Garnish and Serve: For added freshness, garnish with fresh basil leaves, fried tempeh, and sliced cucumber if desired. Serve hot and enjoy this delectable Indonesian dish that perfectly blends spicy, savory, and tangy flavors.

This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice and makes for an exciting, flavorful meal that showcases the vibrant flavors of Indonesian cuisine.
