Savory Beef and Potato Patties
Ingredients:
- 2 large potatoes (Hong Kong variety, roughly the size of sweet potatoes)
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 200 grams of beef, finely minced
- 1 egg
- For the Beef Marinade:
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/8 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- For the Patties:
- 1/3 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Cornstarch, to taste
- Cooking oil, for frying
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Potatoes:
- Peel the potatoes and wash them thoroughly. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Grate the potatoes coarsely and set aside.
-
Marinate the Beef:
- In a bowl, combine the minced beef with soy sauce, sugar, and cornstarch. Mix well and let it marinate for a few minutes.
-
Sauté the Onion:
- Finely chop the onion and sauté it in a pan until golden brown. Allow it to cool.
-
Combine Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated potatoes, marinated beef, sautéed onions, egg, and the seasoning for the patties (salt, soy sauce, sugar, and cornstarch). Mix everything until well combined.
-
Form Patties:
- Shape the mixture into flat patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
-
Cook the Patties:
- Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a skillet over low to medium heat.
- Fry the patties in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook each side until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
-
Serve:
- Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve warm as a delicious main dish or side.
