Savory Beef Pastel Pastry Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 500 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 50 grams margarine
  • 175 ml warm water

For the Filling:

  • 1 potato
  • 1 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 250 grams beef
  • 2 slices ginger
  • Salt and seasoning powder to taste
  • Curry sauce to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and granulated sugar. Add the melted margarine and warm water. Mix the ingredients until the dough comes together. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest.

  2. Prepare the Filling:

    • Dice the potato, onion, carrot, and beef into small cubes.
    • Heat a suitable amount of oil in a pan. Briefly sauté the ginger slices until aromatic.
    • Add the diced beef to the pan and cook until browned.
    • Add the diced potato, onion, and carrot. Season with salt, seasoning powder, and a splash of curry sauce.
    • Add a small amount of water to the pan and cook until the water evaporates and the vegetables are tender. Set the filling aside to cool.
  3. Shape the Pastries:

    • To roll out the dough quickly, use a pasta machine set to a thickness of setting number 5. If you do not have a pasta machine, use a rolling pin to roll out the dough as thinly as possible.
    • Cut the rolled dough into circles using a glass or any round object with a circular edge.
    • Place a tablespoon of the filling in the center of each dough circle.
    • Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges or pinch them to ensure the filling does not escape during frying.
  4. Fry the Pastel Pastries:

    • Heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan. Fry the pastries until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:
    Serve the savory beef pastel pastries hot and enjoy as a delicious snack or appetizer.
