Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Bread (whole wheat) 4 slices
Onion 1, finely chopped
Tomato 1, finely chopped
Green Chili 1, finely chopped
Fresh Coriander 2 sprigs, finely chopped
Besan (gram flour) 1/2 cup
Oil 4 tsp
Salt To taste

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Servings: 4

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Besan Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, add the besan (gram flour), finely chopped onion, tomato, green chili, fresh coriander leaves, and salt. Mix all the ingredients well and add a small amount of water to create a thick paste-like batter.

  2. Cook the Toasts:
Heat a tawa (griddle) over medium heat and add 1 teaspoon of oil. Take a slice of bread and dip it into the besan mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Place the dipped bread slice onto the hot tawa.

  3. Fry the Toasts:
Drizzle a little oil around the edges of the bread. Cook the toast for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Repeat the process with the remaining bread slices.

  4. Serve and Enjoy:
Once all the toasts are ready, serve them hot with a cup of masala chai for an authentic Indian snack experience.

Tips

  • You can add more vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or even spinach to make the toast more nutritious.
  • Adjust the amount of chili according to your spice tolerance.
  • For a crunchier texture, use slightly stale bread.
