Cuisine Course Diet Servings Total Time
North Indian Snack Vegetarian 4 50 minutes

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1/2 teaspoon
Broccoli (grated) 1 cup
Potatoes (Aloo) – boiled & mashed 3 medium-sized
Roasted Peanuts (Moongphali) – coarsely crushed 1/2 cup
Instant Oats (Oatmeal) – powdered 2 tablespoons
Green Chillies – finely chopped 2
Garlic cloves – finely chopped 2
Garam Masala Powder 1/4 teaspoon
Chaat Masala Powder 1 teaspoon

Preparation Instructions

  1. Pressure Cook Potatoes:
Begin by pressure cooking 3 medium-sized potatoes. Cut them in half and add them to the pressure cooker along with 1/2 cup of water. Close the lid and cook for 5 to 6 whistles. Once done, turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally.

  2. Mash the Potatoes:
Peel the cooked potatoes and mash them well. Set them aside in a mixing bowl.

  3. Grind Oats and Peanuts:
In a mixer, grind the instant oats into a fine powder. Keep it aside. Similarly, pound the roasted peanuts using a pestle and mortar to get coarse crushed peanuts. Set these aside as well.

  4. Prepare the Tikki Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the following ingredients:

    • Grated broccoli
    • Mashed potatoes
    • Finely chopped green chilies
    • Chopped garlic
    • Powdered oats
    • Chaat masala powder
    • Garam masala powder
    • Roasted crushed peanuts
    • Salt to taste

Mix all these ingredients thoroughly until well combined. The mixture should have a thick consistency, making it easy to shape into tikkis.

  5. Shape the Tikkis:
Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions. Take each portion and flatten it between your palms to form thick discs or patties.

  6. Cook the Tikkis:
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil. Place the prepared tikkis on the pan. Drizzle a bit more oil on top of each tikki and cook them until golden and crispy on both sides. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.

  7. Serve and Enjoy:
Once the tikkis are perfectly crisp and golden, remove them from the pan and transfer them to a serving plate. Serve hot with a side of Mint Chutney and Adrak Chai for the perfect tea-time snack.

Additional Tips:

  • Customizing the Spice Level: If you prefer a spicier kick, feel free to add more chopped green chilies or a pinch of red chili powder to the mixture.
  • Oil Choice: While extra virgin olive oil adds a great flavor, you can opt for other oils like coconut oil or vegetable oil based on your preference.
  • Storage: If you have leftover tikkis, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat them in a pan or oven to restore their crispiness before serving.

This Broccoli Peanut Oats Tikki recipe is not only a treat for your taste buds but also a nutritious option packed with fiber, protein, and essential vitamins. It’s a delightful and wholesome snack that fits perfectly into a vegetarian diet and is sure to impress your guests. Happy cooking!
