Chicken Katsu with Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 4 chicken breasts, filleted
  • Kobe breadcrumbs (as needed)
  • Sajiku seasoned flour (as needed)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 packet of Saori Teriyaki Sauce
  • 2 red chilies, sliced
  • 2 shallots, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Water, as needed
  • Cornstarch, for thickening

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:

    • Clean the chicken breasts thoroughly. Season them with salt and black pepper. Allow the seasoning to absorb for about 5 minutes.
  2. Bread the Chicken:

    • Set up your breading station with three shallow dishes. Place the seasoned flour in one dish, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in the third.
    • Dredge each chicken breast in the seasoned flour, pressing down to ensure it adheres well. Next, dip the chicken into the beaten eggs, coating evenly. Finally, coat the chicken with the breadcrumbs, pressing them into the surface for a good coating.
  3. Fry the Chicken:

    • Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the breaded chicken breasts. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side. Ensure the chicken is cooked through, with an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Remove the chicken from the pan and let it drain on paper towels.
  4. Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce:

    • While the chicken is frying, prepare the teriyaki sauce. Heat a small amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced red chilies, minced garlic, and sliced shallots. Sauté until fragrant and the shallots become translucent.
    • Pour in the Saori Teriyaki Sauce and add a small amount of water to achieve the desired consistency. Stir in a slurry made from cornstarch and a little water to thicken the sauce. Cook until the sauce reaches a glossy, thickened consistency.
  5. Serve:

    • Slice the cooked chicken katsu into strips. Arrange on a serving plate and drizzle with the homemade teriyaki sauce. Serve hot and enjoy!

This recipe for Chicken Katsu with Teriyaki Sauce delivers a crispy, flavorful dish that’s perfect for a satisfying meal. The combination of tender chicken with a sweet and savory teriyaki sauce creates a delightful contrast that’s sure to please.
