Pan Fried Corn & Cheese Bites (Corn & Paneer Balls) Recipe

Cuisine: Continental
Course: Snack
Diet: Vegetarian
Servings: 4
Total Time: 45 minutes (Prep: 15 minutes | Cook: 30 minutes)

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Paneer (Homemade Cottage Cheese) 200 grams
Potatoes (Aloo) – boiled and mashed 2 large potatoes
Sweet Corn – steamed 1 cup
Green Chillies – finely chopped 1 small
Coriander (Dhania) Leaves – finely chopped 2 sprigs
Fennel Seeds (Saunf) – pounded 1 teaspoon
Chaat Masala Powder 1 teaspoon
Cumin Powder (Jeera) 1 teaspoon
Sesame Seeds (Til seeds) – for coating ½ cup
Salt To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients
Begin by preparing your ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, combine the steamed sweet corn, boiled and mashed potatoes, and crumbled paneer. Add the finely chopped green chillies, coriander leaves, fennel seeds, chaat masala powder, cumin powder, and salt to taste.

  2. Combine the Mixture
Using your hands, mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Make sure the flavors are well integrated. Taste the mixture and adjust the salt or spices as needed.

  3. Shape the Bites
Once the mixture is well combined, take small portions of the mixture and shape them into bite-sized balls. Set these aside.

  4. Coat the Bites
Gently roll each ball in sesame seeds, ensuring that they are evenly coated. This will give the bites a delightful crunch once fried.

  5. Pan-Fry the Bites
Heat a Kuzhi Paniyaram pan (or any similar non-stick pan) over medium heat. Add a little oil to each cavity in the pan. Once the pan is hot, carefully place the corn & cheese balls into the cavities.

  6. Cook Until Golden
Pan-fry the balls, turning them occasionally, until they are evenly browned and crispy on all sides. This should take about 5-6 minutes per side.

  7. Drain the Excess Oil
Once the bites are golden and crisp, remove them from the pan and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.

  8. Serve and Enjoy
Serve the Pan Fried Corn & Cheese Bites hot and crispy. For an added touch of freshness, pair them with a warm cup of Tetley Lemon & Honey Green Tea and a side of green chutney for dipping. These bites are perfect for a light yet satisfying snack!

Tips for Perfect Corn & Paneer Balls:

  • Consistency: Make sure the potato is mashed well to avoid any lumps. If the mixture feels too soft or sticky, you can add a small amount of breadcrumbs or chickpea flour to bind it.
  • Crispy Texture: For extra crunch, ensure that the sesame seeds are well-coated on the outside before frying. The seeds will give a nice crispy texture to the bites.
  • Healthier Option: If you prefer a healthier alternative, you can bake these bites instead of frying them. Just preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C), arrange the balls on a baking sheet, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

These Pan Fried Corn & Cheese Bites are a perfect snack for any occasion, whether it’s a family gathering, a weekend party, or just a quick bite to satisfy your cravings. The combination of paneer, potatoes, and sweet corn, seasoned with traditional Indian spices and coated in sesame seeds, makes them irresistibly delicious!
