Fuyunghai Tahu Recipe

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Eggs 2 large
Tofu 2 blocks
Green onion 1 stalk, chopped
Onion (yellow or white) 1/2 medium, sliced
Shallot 1 small, finely sliced
Garlic 1 clove, finely sliced
Cornstarch 1 tablespoon
Tomato sauce To taste
Chili sauce To taste
Salt To taste
Oil For frying

Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Egg Tofu Omelet

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Start by cutting the tofu into small cubes. Finely slice the green onion, shallot, and garlic, and set them aside.
  2. Make the omelet mixture: In a medium bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them together. Add the cubed tofu, chopped green onion, thinly sliced shallot, and a pinch of salt. Mix everything together until well combined.
  3. Fry the omelet: Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Pour the egg and tofu mixture into the pan and cook until both sides are golden brown and the omelet is fully cooked through. This should take about 3-4 minutes per side. Once cooked, carefully remove the omelet from the pan and place it on a serving plate.

Step 2: Making the Sauce

  1. Sauté the aromatics: In a separate saucepan, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the finely sliced garlic and onion, and sauté until fragrant and slightly softened, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Thicken the sauce: In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in a few tablespoons of water. Pour this cornstarch mixture into the saucepan with the garlic and onion. Stir constantly to avoid clumps as the sauce thickens.
  3. Adjust the consistency: If the sauce becomes too thick, add a bit more water to reach your desired consistency. Stir in the tomato sauce, chili sauce, and a pinch of salt. Let the sauce simmer for another minute or two, until it is well combined and begins to bubble.

Step 3: Serve

  1. Plating: Once the sauce is ready, pour it generously over the cooked egg tofu omelet. Make sure the sauce covers the omelet evenly.
  2. Enjoy: Serve your Fuyunghai Tahu hot, and enjoy the delicious combination of crispy tofu and fluffy eggs with the savory, slightly spicy sauce.

This delightful dish is best enjoyed fresh and hot. The balance of flavors in the egg tofu omelet and the savory sauce makes it a satisfying and comforting meal any time of the day. Serve with rice or as a standalone meal.
