Fried Mackerel (Ikan Kembung Goreng)

Ingredients:

  • 5 whole mackerel fish (ikan kembung)
  • 3 limes (jeruk nipis)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (kunyit bubuk)
  • Ground coriander (ketumbar bubuk), to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Seasoning powder (bumbu penyedap), to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish: Begin by cleaning the mackerel thoroughly. Use a knife to make several diagonal cuts along the sides of each fish. This will help the marinade penetrate deeper, ensuring a more flavorful result.

  2. Marinate: Squeeze the juice of the limes over the fish, making sure to cover both sides. This will help to remove any fishy odor and add a zesty tang. Next, season the fish with salt, turmeric powder, ground coriander, and seasoning powder. Rub the spices into the fish, ensuring that they are evenly distributed and well-absorbed.

  3. Let It Rest: Allow the fish to marinate in the seasoning mixture for at least 30 minutes. This will enable the flavors to infuse into the fish, creating a deliciously seasoned crust when cooked.

  4. Fry the Fish: Heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the marinated fish into the pan. Fry the fish until it turns golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the fish.

  5. Drain and Serve: Remove the fried fish from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot as a delicious main dish or appetizer.

Enjoy your perfectly crispy and flavorful fried mackerel!
