Sate Bawal: A Delightful Twist on Traditional Sate

Ingredients:

  • 3 pomfret fish
  • Tofu
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 5 shallots
  • 3 drops of vinegar
  • Bird’s eye chilies to taste
  • Sweet soy sauce

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Fish:

    • Clean the pomfret fish thoroughly.
    • Season the fish with salt and then fry until golden and cooked through.
  2. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Cut the tofu into small cubes.
    • Season the tofu cubes with salt and coat them lightly with flour.
    • Fry the tofu cubes until they are crispy and golden brown.
  3. Prepare the Sauce:

    • Coarsely crush the bird’s eye chilies and remove the seeds if desired for a milder taste.
    • In a bowl, combine the crushed chilies, sliced shallots, chopped tomatoes, vinegar, and sweet soy sauce.
    • Mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Combine and Serve:

    • Once the fish is fried, carefully remove the bones and flake the fish into bite-sized pieces.
    • Add the fish pieces into the prepared sauce and mix gently to ensure the fish is well coated with the sauce.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy the flavors reminiscent of traditional lamb sate, but with a healthier twist using pomfret fish.
